Here is my first oil painting ever – a winter cabin. This is the first time I have ever picked up a brush and I painted this cabin in a workshop. This was about three months ago. In the meantime I’ve been using watercolor and I’m STILL struggling with getting my water to pigment ratio right, deciding which brush to use, and trying to get the drying timing right. Why do I bring this up? Because I’ve been seeing videos lately where they say that watercolor being harder than oil is a myth and I’m saying from personal experience that it is not! My first oil painting is better than any watercolor I’ve been practicing with for three months!
But, I’m going to press on and keep practicing because I’m not going to let watercolors get the better of me. I WILL dominate!!!
