Fun With Watercolor Mountains

mountain1I haven’t done much in the way of winter landscapes so I decided that I need some practice. I don’t think there’s one thing that I like about this painting so I tried it again… Continue reading

By The Lake Watercolor

This one took me all night to do. The strange thing is, I’m not sure how I did it. I sat down and started painting. I was watching a tv series online and kept getting up to some more..paint some more etc. I like this one but I never know what to do with grass or a large grassy area to make it interesting. Any ideas? Anyway, hope you likey šŸ™‚

Secret Streamlet Watercolor

I’m very pleased with this one. I could probably give the mountain and stream a little more shape but other than that, I actually like it. I worked very hard at not being concerned about where objects started and stopped. I kept telling myself that it’s ok for a shoreline NOT to be defined but instead, let it bleed into the stream. I had toĀ convince myself that a mountain or cliff does NOT have to always be brown even though it goes against every fibre of my being. Even painting a tree that’s leaning is extremely vexing for me because I have to have everything even and straight and the correct color. I have to actually work at being free and loose. Must be my personality type or something.

What say ye?

Barren Trees Watercolor

As simple as this painting is, it took me several attempts to get it to look like this – kinda rustic and not overworked. It’s very hard to put the brush down when you just want to go go go! Also used a limited palette which is hard for me because I like to use lots of colors. I know I’m not alone in this.

I need to improve my branchesĀ  – they are horrible. I’ve got a rigger for fine lining but I’m wondering if a rigger is different than an actual liner brush? Can someone help me? I need control for the mid-level/thick branches and the rigger is just too floppy.

Forgotten Island Watercolor

I got this composition from The Mind of Watercolor on YouTube. I kind of followed his video but did my own thing too. After watching it a million times, this is what happened above. šŸ™‚

As always, critiques and criticisms are encouraged. As for my own critique, I wish I could make sand more interesting. Also, learn how to paint other kinds of rocks – all of mine are basically the same.
