I’m very pleased with this one. I could probably give the mountain and stream a little more shape but other than that, I actually like it. I worked very hard at not being concerned about where objects started and stopped. I kept telling myself that it’s ok for a shoreline NOT to be defined but instead, let it bleed into the stream. I had to convince myself that a mountain or cliff does NOT have to always be brown even though it goes against every fibre of my being. Even painting a tree that’s leaning is extremely vexing for me because I have to have everything even and straight and the correct color. I have to actually work at being free and loose. Must be my personality type or something.
I got this composition from The Mind of Watercolor on YouTube. I kind of followed his video but did my own thing too. After watching it a million times, this is what happened above. 🙂
As always, critiques and criticisms are encouraged. As for my own critique, I wish I could make sand more interesting. Also, learn how to paint other kinds of rocks – all of mine are basically the same.

I can’t decide if I like this one or not. The composition is awful I know. But I kinda like the colors and strokes. For the sea, I did a clear water wash over it to sort of blend the colors into the white areas giving it a softer look. I could make the sky look more like a sky but then that would be a different technique than the rest of the painting and that would look strange. I tried to be consistent.
